Retreat of Major European Tree Species Distribution under Climate Change—Minor Natives to the Rescue?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Climate change is projected to trigger strong declines in the potential distribution of major tree species Europe. While minor natives have moved into spotlight as alternatives, their ecology often poorly understood. We use an ensemble modelling approach on a set promising native gain insights under different climate scenarios. Moreover, we identify urgency and altered distributions favor by comparing niche dynamics five with six case study. Our models project stark range contractions shifts among species, strongly amplified high emission Abies alba, Picea abies Fagus sylvatica are affected strongest. also experiencing shifts, European Castanea sativa, Sorbus torminalis, Ulmus laevis all considerably expand across Accompanied Carpinus betulus, stable size, they hold substantially contribute sustainably adapting forest change.

15 صفحه اولAn Objective Approach to Select Climate Scenarios when Projecting Species Distribution under Climate Change.
An impressive number of new climate change scenarios have recently become available to assess the ecological impacts of climate change. Among these impacts, shifts in species range analyzed with species distribution models are the most widely studied. Whereas it is widely recognized that the uncertainty in future climatic conditions must be taken into account in impact studies, many assessments...
متن کاملEffects of climate change, invasive species, and disease on the distribution of native European crayfishes.
Climate change will require species to adapt to new conditions or follow preferred climates to higher latitudes or elevations, but many dispersal-limited freshwater species may be unable to move due to barriers imposed by watershed boundaries. In addition, invasive nonnative species may expand into new regions under future climate conditions and contribute to the decline of native species. We e...
متن کاملClimate change versus deforestation: Implications for tree species distribution in the dry forests of southern Ecuador
Seasonally dry forests in the neotropics are heavily threatened by a combination of human disturbances and climate change; however, the severity of these threats is seldom contrasted. This study aims to quantify and compare the effects of deforestation and climate change on the natural spatial ranges of 17 characteristic tree species of southern Ecuador dry deciduous forests, which are heavily ...
